You really believe that "commercial" crap? Journey is guilty of exactly three things:
Wow. What big sins: making music that people enjoy. As if pleasure is something to avoid. The "commercial" criticism was first leveled at Journey by Rolling Stone Magazine. Considering that Rolling Stone itself contains more Corporate America ads than articles in any given issue...well. At least you can listen straight through any Journey album and not have to skip over Calvin Klein ads. Of course, any rock critic will say, "But we have to pay the bills! We have to eat!"...as if musicians don't have to do those things, as well. In the words of Ascended Master Steve Perry, "When you're born, you're in the business of life. You gotta pay taxes. You gotta eat. And we enjoy eating as much as anybody." "Commercial" and "artistic" are empty labels that are only used when a critic has no truly valid criticism. Critics don't want people enjoying themselves. They want the rest of the world to endlessly ponder eternal tragedy, too. They forget that joy and pleasure are as much a part of life as the bad stuff is. Besides, they're being PAID to give their opinion, so that makes the critic just as "commercial" as they accuse Journey of being. Here in the HSOJ, we declare Pleasure as the Inalienable Right of the Journey of Life. Here-by and hence-forth, we proclaim:
Therefore, Journey are the Primordial Beings of Good. Ye Shalt Have No Other Bands Before Them. Or Else. |
